How To Run Windows Apps On Mac For Free Without VM

WineBottler
WineBottler packages Windows-based programs like browsers, media-players, games or business applications snugly into Mac app-bundles.
Your company provides you with a login, mail, calendar and contacts that only work on certain browsers?
You quickly want to test your websites in Windows-based browsers.

Instructions

1. Download the latest stable version of WineBottler from the link below.
2. Double-click the DMG file and drag both the Wine and WineBottler icons into your Applications folder.
3. Find your Windows software. (In my case, I will use Microsoft Money Sunset Edition.)
4. Next, go to Wine Application Database (AppDB) from the link below and type the name of your Windows software into the Search box to find out if other people have successfully installed the app, and what requirements need to be met. (In the case of Microsoft Money, I will need to add two Winetricks, msxml3 and ie8.)
5. Open WineBottler and switch to the Advanced tab.
6. Leave “new prefix” selected under “Prefix Template” and click the “Select File…” button to browse to your program’s setup file (in my example, “USMoneyDlxSunset.exe”.) Select “This is an installer, execute it.”
7. Certain programs require additional Windows components, such as “IE8″ or the “.NET Framework” to run. You can include these in your application’s prefix, so it works properly. (For Microsoft Money, use the Search box to find “msxml3″ and “ie8″, then tick each one.)
8. Check “Include Wine binaries…” after reading the tip box. Change “com.yourcompany.yourapp” to match your program (For me, that’s “com.Microsoft.Money”.)
9. Leave “Silent Install” unchecked, then click “Install”.
10. Choose where to save it, name your program and click “Install”.
11. First the “Wine bottle” or “prefix” is set up then WineBottler installs any Winetricks, followed by your app. If a “Profile creation aborted” error appears, read the log (Typically it’s related to a missing Winetricks setup file, and you’ll be provided with a download link.)
12. After resolving errors, you’re prompted to install Winetrick components followed by the program. (If any Program Error boxes appear, keep clicking close until they disappear and WineBottler moves onto the next component.)
13. Open the program from the Applications folder (There might be a short wait.)
14. Now try it. (In Microsoft Money, I couldn’t use the setup wizard, so I needed to adapt the “sample.mny” file by choosing “File > Open” and browsing to “drive_c\Program Files\Microsoft Money Plus”.)

installing 3rd-party themes on windows

You can use any of the following mentioned free utilities to patch your Windows and to use your favorite 3rd party theme:

1. UxStyle

"UxStyle" is a very small lightweight utility created by our friend "Rafael" to use 3rd party themes in Windows. According to the developer:

UxStyle is a light-weight system service named Unsigned Themes, complimentary to the Themes service, and a kernel driver, sizing in at ~500k and ~17kb respectfully (beta builds). The service handles the enabling/disabling of custom theme support and the kernel driver handles patching. For 64-bit platforms, the kernel driver is signed with a digital certificate, as required by Microsoft.

Simply download and install the tool and get ready to enjoy 3rd party themes. It works in almost all Windows versions including Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. It also supports Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012 and 2012 R2.
It'll run as a service in background and will allow you to use 3rd party themes.

2. VistaGlazz

"VistaGlazz" is another free and very easy to use UXtheme patcher for Windows XP, Vista and 7.

Download and run the program, accept the agreement and click on the first "Computer" icon to patch your system.

3. Universal Theme Patcher

"Universal Theme Patcher" is yet another excellent UxTheme Patcher which supports Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, Server 2008 and Windows 7. It can be used in both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) systems.

Following are simple steps to use this tool:
1. You just need to run its EXE file and it'll ask you to select the language.
2. Click on OK button and it'll detect the OS and condition of the system files. It'll show you the information and will ask you for confirmation.
3. Click on Yes button. Now you'll see the main interface of this tool. You just need to click on the "Patch" button given for each file:

4. Once you patch a file, the "Restore" button gets activated so that you can restore the default file in future.
5. Restart your system and you'll be able to use 3rd party themes in Windows without any problem.

Applying Custom 3rd Party Theme

Once you have patched Windows, copy your desired theme folder (containing a .theme file and a folder containing .msstyles file) to "%windir%\Resources\Themes\" folder (where %windir% means "Windows" directory present in system drive where Windows is installed. Most probably C: drive).

Now double-click on .theme file and it'll apply the theme or you can apply it using Desktop Properties.

To create a restore point on windows

If you are new to windows or want to know how to create restore points, this is how.

2.  right-clicking Computer(T'HIS PC), and then clicking Properties.
3. In the left pane, click System protection. ...
4. Click the System Protection tab, and then click Create.
5. In the System Protection dialog box, type a description, and then click Create

first, go to start menu navigate and click on  File Explorer or you can simply open a folder. once the folder window is opened, locate 'THIS PC' (if you have not yet created Amin account the default name is 'this pc'  but if you have, it appears as the admin name.) on the left panel of the folder window you opened then continue from the above step (2).
